Three more hours with A Simple Complex!
January 16, 2009 01:15 PM PST
The last show I did with A Simple Complex was so much fun, we did again. Will and Mark joined me for this special, year-ending, three hour show. It was a fun show, with lots of music and conversation over a WIDE range of topics. Download the podcast or Will's going to kill off your character.
December 23, 2008 09:23 PM PST
I'm not kidding! They're just not right!! Of course, that makes them PERFECT guests for The Underworld. Will and Jason from A Simple Complex joined me in the studio for two hours of utter craziness. You know I LOVE their music, and now. . . now I know that they are just as fucked up and nerdy as I am!! We had so much fun, I've invited them back for a special 3-hour installation of the show on Dec. 29. Seriously, this was one of the funniest episodes of The Underworld to date. Check it out and see what I mean. And, hey! Do us both a favor and subscribe to the podcast on iTunes for FREE by using this link. iTunes Podcast Link Download the podcast or I'll teabag you!!

Who would be a more natural occupant of The Underworld than Ruin? Nobody, my friends. . . No. Fucking. Body. Rich, Craig, and Kevin spent two hours in the studio talking about. . . well. . . all kinds of silly shit. Their disk, "Hands of Enmity," is brilliant, brutal, and has the world's longest fade-out. The oft-mentioned-but-yet-unheard-from Michelle made her debut appearance as my guest host. (She was a bit nervous and is still obsessing about what she did or didn't say on the show.)She did great, though. She has a near-encyclopedic knowledge of the New England metal scene, she's evil, and she's funny as hell. She'll be on the show from time to time and I'm certain her twisted personality will come through on the air as she becomes more comfortable in the studio. Use the link below to download the podcast. The power of Cthulhu compells you!!
November 27, 2008 10:31 AM PST
Just a quick post to get this podcast syndicated. This show has a LOT of new music in it! Pure concentrated evil from Dead Season, Loki, Tear Down the Sun, Soundbender, Fastburn, and more! Keep listening to The Underworld to hear the best music New England has to offer. You'll enjoy the podcast linked below. . . 'cuz you kick ass like that.
Shadows Fall's Jason Bittner on The Underworld
November 17, 2008 03:01 PM PST
I've been way behind, but trust me!! It's worth the wait. This episode of The Underworld Radio Show is chock full o' minerals, vitamins, and tasty, tasty EVIL. I was priviledged to speak with Jason Bittner, drummer extrodinaire of Shadows Fall. The conversation is a bit stilted in points, because I'm a big freaking loser like that. Jason was cool, and I love his power, style, and speed. In the second hour, we talk with Al Wolfson - the lead singer of Devil's Champion. He's got a bitchin' new project that's perfect for all you lovelorn headbangers out there. If you're looking for that perfect tattooed guy or chick, you have to go to his new website Rock 'N Roll Dating. Check out the podcast. You're priest will damn you for it. And that will make me grin.
CREATIVE FREEDOM!! Plus, interviews with Metal Church and Mindset X!
October 19, 2008 12:28 PM PDT
Sweet baby jeebus! I love The Underworld's new time slot!! We're now on from 10:00 pm until midnight every Monday night. The best part of our new slot is that we're in FCC Safe Harbor Hours. This means that we can play music without editing out the gloriously evil, perverse, and generally profane sections that can make metal so much fun! This show features two interviews in the second hour. The first is from the amazing lead vocalist Metal Church, Ronnie Munroe!! Our second interviewee is Steven Scott, vocalist and guitarist of one our favorite local bands (and on-air guests) Mindset X. We somewhat abused our new-found freedom in this episode of The Underworld. We played a lot of tunes - that we've never had the freedom to air - from bands like Big Coffin Hunters, Purenform, Bottoms Up, Cellblock One, and many more! TUNE IN ON MONDAY, OCTOBER 20!!! We'll be interviewing Jason Bittner of Shadows Fall and Al Wolfson of Devil's Champion. Here's the podcast. Satan and yer momma want you to rebel and listen!
Keeping Promises with A Simple Complex, Synthetic Killing Unit, Crazy Jane, and Full Tilt
October 13, 2008 04:36 AM PDT
The good news is that The Underworld is now on a new day and time! Our live show now airs Monday nights from 10:00 pm to midnight. This puts us in FCC "Safe Harbor" hours, meaning we can play ANY music we want - without fear of FCC indecency and profanity laws! So, keep listening to The Underworld. It's just got better!! The great news is that the music featured in this episode of The Underworld will beat your ass like you owed it money. Finally making good on a promise to Mark from A Simple Complex, we played tunes from Synthetic Killing Unit, Crazy Jane, and Full Tilt. Now, the bad news. First, our two scheduled guests - Eric from Q and St1tch from Mushroomhead were given the wrong date for our interviews. So, we'll catch them another time - soon. Second, I've discovered the loss of our show of September 30, featuring Dave Ellefson of F5 (former long-time bassist for Megadeth) and Pete from Twisted Roots. Nothing I can do about it, and it sucks ass. Here's your podcast. I hope you choke on it.
The Underworld Interviews Hatebreed and Pulse8.
September 23, 2008 05:42 PM PDT
Damn, dog. This show is packed with head-banging goodness! First, we were favored with a phone interview with Damon Mocahbee of Pulse8-a killer up-and-coming band that recenctly signed with our buddy Joe from RatPak Records. Next, we interviewd Matt Byrce - drummer of the Grammy-nominated metal band Hatebreed. Hatebreed has the Billboard Magazine #1 DVD in the nation right now - their new release, "Live Dominance." We played lots of great music from these and bitchin' bands and had a major announcement that is covered in the early moments of the show. Megathanks to my buddy Joe. RatPak will own you all! Be sure to check out our MYSPACE PAGE to see what's going down in The Underworld. I just posted a bunch of new pictures of bands you already know and love. Here's your goddamn podcast. I hope you're happy with yourselves.
Interviews with Testament and Walls of Jericho
August 19, 2008 04:51 PM PDT
This show includes interviews with Greg Christian of Testament and Candace Kucsulain of Walls of Jericho.
Best. Show. Evar.
August 13, 2008 03:26 PM PDT
Okay, that might be a stretch, but not by much. This week's fun in The Underworld features our interview with Jeromy Spencer of Five Finger Death Punch, and new music from Ruin and Pulse 8. Most of the show was dedicated to a lengthy concert report / bragfest about our exploits at the Rockstar Energy Drink Mayem Festival. It was amazing. That is all. The rest of the show was, as always, New England's best original rock. I also reviewed two local show's that I attended on Thursday and Friday. Here's the podcast. Fold it until it's all corners and shove it up . . . I mean, ENJOY!
Now I'm back on track!!
July 30, 2008 06:56 PM PDT
Hey music lovers! It's only been one day, and I already have the podcast ready for your silly asses. We had a lot of fun on The Underworld Radio Show this week. The music kicks ass, and we managed to not suck as much as usual. Here's the link. Suck it, bitches.
Better Late Than Never!
July 30, 2008 06:54 PM PDT
Okay, I'm getting better. I'm posting this podcast only eight days after it aired. It's pretty sweet, though. Give it a little listen. Here's the link. It's sound! You know . . . for your ears?
I know I suck.
July 21, 2008 08:26 PM PDT
God, I've been bad about this! Here's the latest podcast from The Underworld Radio Show. It's a good one, with lots of music you'll enjoy. Have fun you party animals. Play nice, unless it's with country music or rap fans. In that case, do your worst.
Nothing But Heroes
June 26, 2008 06:35 PM PDT
Sweet Baby Jeebus! I'm SO far behind on the Underworld podcast!! Somehow, we keep growing and growing, with more listeners and subscribers every month. My great thanks to everyone who's been so patiently awaiting new episodes.
Don't Blame Missy B!
May 27, 2008 04:53 PM PDT
Missy B. of Q did not talk with The Underworld on the air today. This was not her fault, though - nor mine now that I think about it!! No, this time, someone wisely left the fax machine set to automatically answer the phone. So, Missy got an earful of fax chatter a bunch of times before she gave up and had to STFU and GBTW.
Mindset X on The Underworld
May 19, 2008 06:16 AM PDT
Hola amigos! (Just a little French lingo for you, there.) It's been awhile since I rapped at you, but I've been pretty busy. First, I had to work about a brazillion hours while we refueled the nuclear reactor at my day job. (No, I'm not joking.) Then, I finally got my life back to normal, and came back to The Underworld! Our first guest since my return was Mindset X. Okay, to be accurate, our GUESTS were Steve and Jerry from Mindset X and our old buddy Hammer from Rage Rock Radio. (Adam, the drummer of Mindset X wisely chose to be far-far away.) This was a VERY funny show with some of my all-time favorite guests. Check it out and enjoy. Our next show will feature Vegas Temper, who has an ass-kicking new disk! Here's the podcast. Stick it in your earhole.
Offbeat music and conversation with The Isolated Sequence - on The Underworld
March 19, 2008 07:12 AM PDT
Otto from The Isolated Sequence joined Kaley and Mike in the infamous Underworld lair. We were treated to Otto's musings on such topics as former New York governor Elliot Spitzer, leagalized prostitution, legalized Canadian prostitution, and intoxicants of various and dubious legality. As a special, unexpected treat, Otto favored us with a karaoke version of the Humpty Dance - live and unrehearsed. A quick update on our friend Dave Crisci. For those unfamiliar with his name and situation, Dave is the bassist of local '80s tribute band Decadence. He is essentially paralized from the waiste down due to back problems. He'll walk again, but it's uncertain when that will happen. The friends of Dave Crisci threw a benefit last Saturday to try to help the guy out a bit. In all, it appears that we raised about $5000! Thanks to all who helped and contributed to the cause. Here's the podcast. Shove it up your ass. (I don't know why I typed that. . .)
Totaro is awesome! My podcasting methods are not.
March 17, 2008 03:52 PM PDT
Damn. This was one of the best shows in Underworld history. Unfortunately, many people couldn't hear it because we were having trouble with our broadcast tower all afternoon. No problem, right? We always have the podcast - right? Right. We always have the podcast unless something messes it up. So. . . . of course it got messed up. John Totaro was our guest in the studio. What an amazing talent! We had a great time talking with him and (in the second hour of the show) listening to him play live on the air. Here's what really sucks, though. The podcast recording stopped before any of John's live performance. DAMN IT! So, here's what I have - with my apologies to the fans and friends of John Totaro and The Underworld. Do you have any idea how much ass Maniacal kicks?
March 07, 2008 02:42 PM PST
Seriously folks, Maniacal is one of my favorite Seacoast bands. 75% of the band was in the studio with Kaley and me (I'm looking at YOU, Rusty!) while we played four new songs from their forthcoming EP/DVD combo. We played another song from Underworld newcomers The Isolated Sequence as well as new stuff from Dustin Pearce and more! We also had a suprise visit from Al of Two Sided Season. Here's your podcast, beeeooootttcchhh.
Sake of Reason on The Underworld
February 29, 2008 01:46 PM PST
Sake of Reason joined Mike and Guy in the studio for two hours of absurdity and rock. New music included great tunes by The Isolated Sequence and Wreckoning. Tune in next week for the insanity of Maniacal. Here's the podcast. You know what to do.
Show Dave Crisci your support!
February 18, 2008 03:10 PM PST
Guy Harvey visited The Underworld to talk about a very important benefit that is happening on March 15. Here's the information from The Dave Crisci Benefit Blog: Just before this past Christmas (2007) Dave was admitted to the hospital with a back problem. As it turned out, he had to get emergency surgery for THREE discs in his back that were pushing on his spinal cord. He has undergone two operations now. Unfortunately things still are not looking very good for him. The doctors say he will walk again, the question is... when? This is the current situation: 1. Dave's insurance company will only allow him to stay in the rehabilitation facility until he is able to get himself........ IN AND OUT OF A WHEELCHAIR! 2. After he can get himself around (enough to manage to sit at home, not work, not drive a car, cook, flop himself out of the chair, bathe and nothing more) the insurance company will send him home! They will continue to pay for his rehab, but will not provide transportation to and from it. 3. He will need an Up-to-Building-Code wheelchair ramp built to get in and out of his apartment. Two things We all Can do to Help.
About the benefit: Dave's band DECADENCE and friends have Arranged a benefit with the bands Bottoms Up and 11:11 (with former members of PCDM) at: The American Legion, 8 Church St, Shirley MA,
The Benefit show will start at 6:00 P.M. and run until 12:00 A.M.
11:11 Also, You can help with your Online donation if you can't make it to the benefit. Any donation you make will go directly to Dave
You can also send checks to: Dave Cricsi

Groovy tunes with Mike and Kaley
February 07, 2008 11:35 AM PST
Kaley and I just hung out and played bitchin' tunes all afternoon. I'll be heading over to The Dover Brickhouse on Friday night for the return of Window Pain. We'll also bang our heads with Lourds and Rezinate.Come join me! We'll get our drink on and rock out. Kaley, T-Bag, and I will all be at The Dover Brickhouse Sunday for an all-ages show with Adria, The Screen, The Hate Game, and Cambiata. Download the show or the terrorists have already won.
Gary Smejkal in The Underworld
February 02, 2008 06:15 PM PST
Gary Smejkal joined Kaley and Mike in The Underworld this week. This guy is truly an amazing musician. Check out the show!! Listen to the podcast or your mother and I won't love you anymore.
Holy crap, I'm late with this podcast!
February 01, 2008 08:55 PM PST
Hey music lovers and local metal fans! I've been incredibly busy and haven't posted the show from our January 22 broadcast until now. Cool new tune on this podcast by Gary Smejkal. Check it out, you'll dig the awesome bass and drums. Here's the show. Stick it in your computer and smoke it.
Project Amasa in The Underworld
January 17, 2008 04:31 PM PST
Project Amasa is a long-time labor of love for Kirk Bartholomew. You may recognize his name since this was his fourth time on the show! (An Underworld record.) He's been on the show talking about his project "El Kapitan" in the past, and his musicianship is as great as ever. Project Amasa is different, though. The disk is titled, "Tribute Cafe." It's a tribute to a musician - a friend of Kirk's that passed away. He saved the old 2" tapes of Amasa from the 80's. They've been digitally remastered, with new vocals by some incredible talents. Melodic, heavy, and meaningful - it's just great music. Wendy Poor is one of the singers on the disk. She also happens to be one of my closest friends! She really let loose on two songs, and really showcases her magnificent pipes. Her main singing gig is with the 80s tribute band Decadence, where she always shows just how hard a chick can rock. Here's the podcast. Don't be a dick. Download it now!!
Live in The Underworld - with Bad Bones Records
January 08, 2008 06:36 PM PST
Happy New Year from The Underworld!
January 03, 2008 05:55 PM PST
The Underworld rocked New Year's Day in exactly the same way we rock every Tuesday.: Loud, aggressive, tasty local tunes and inane commentary. I gave my review of the "Hell for the Holidays" show that I attended at the Dover Brickhouse on Dec. 29. The bands all kicked ass. Check out the podcast and you'll hear all about it. This is the one! Mike's interview with Geoff Tate of Queensryche!
December 20, 2007 02:11 PM PST
Listening to The Underworld will save your life!
December 12, 2007 04:38 AM PST
This was a tremedous show! To start: Big Rock Show Joe interviewed Jason Bittner, the drummer for Shadows Fall. Through the miracle of Fark.com we learned that we're saving lives by rocking Portsmouth every week. Don't believe me? Check out this link! Finally, Kaley and I announced that next week's show will feature an interview with Geoff Tate of Queensryche! We're very excited about this, of course. You'll definitely want to tune in next week. Here's the link to download the show directly.
Killswitch Engage interview, Frozen, Scissorfight, Steel Assassin, and Till We Die
December 05, 2007 04:37 PM PST
Wow. I didn't think this show would be so BIG! We had new music from Till We Die, Steel Assassin, Scissorfight, and Frozen. The Big Rock Show interview was amazing. Joe talked with Adam from Killswitch Engage! Death Defect, Transdusk, and Living Syndication
November 27, 2007 06:42 PM PST
Today's show was just a buttload of fun. Kaley and I had a few good rants and played some killer tunes. New music on this week's show comes from Death Defect, Transdusk, and Living Syndication. All three bands kick ass in their own way, so check out the podcast, AND their myspace pages. Here's the direct link. You know what to do.
Big Rock Show interview with Rob Halford!
November 21, 2007 05:45 AM PST
Here's the big news from this week's show:
As always, we shredded the public airwaves with New England's best original rock. Hey - that's just how we roll in The Underworld. Here's the podcast. You know what to do.
Girl on Top and Nimbus 9
November 14, 2007 03:26 PM PST
Girl on Top made their Underworld debut this week. I've always been a fan of female-fronted rock bands, and Girl on Top is a great one. The vocals are excellent, and I really dig the bass. Don't get me wrong, every member of the band sounds excellent. The vocals and bass are just what leap out at me. We also debuted Nimbus 9 this week. I first hear Nimbus 9 earlier this year at Mark's Showplace. Each member of this band is outstanding, but their bassist steals the show. He plays a six string bass like a madman. Check them out if you get the chance. New music from Mindset X rounded out the show, with some newer tunes from Sadplant, Vegas Temper, Window Pain, and Q. Finally, Big Rock Show Joe had another great interview. This week, we heard him chat with Chuck Billy from Testament. Testament is as great as they were when I first saw them open up for Iron Maiden back in 1993. Joe has an even BIGGER interview coming next week, so be sure to listen. Here's a link to download the show:
Jake and the Jakes takes their beating!!
November 07, 2007 03:58 PM PST
Jake and the Jakes finally returned to The Underworld to take their medicine!! Jeff (bass) was a very good sport as we pummelled him from beginning till the bitter end of the show. This is (perhaps) the best show we've ever had. I offer my VERY great thanks to Jeff and the rest Jake and the Jakes. They are some of our all-time favorite guests and they'll defenitely be back sometime in the near future for another LIVE performance! We also started a new segment on the show - a weekly spot featuring Joe from The Big Rock Show interviewing a national act. This week we hear from Ivan Moody from Five Finger Death Punch. Check out the podcast with the link below:
Joe from The Big Rock Show and Rat Pak Records
October 31, 2007 06:38 PM PDT
Joe joined The Underworld on the air this week. Who's Joe? Well, he's the nutjob behind The Big Rock Show and Rat Pak Records. He's got superb taste in music, he always puts together a great show, and he's just fun as hell to hang out with. We played a lot of brand new music from: Sadplant, Never the Next Day, Vegas Temper, Ashes of Your Enemy, and MORE!! Frozen, Steel Assassin, and Candy Striper Death Orgy
October 23, 2007 04:05 PM PDT
Brand new tunes today from Frozen, Steel Assassin, and Candy Striper Death Orgy!! Tune in next week when Joe from Rat Pak Records and The Big Rock Show will be our guest! Here's a link to download the show in mp3 format:
New music from Coven of 13, Q, Shanghai Thrill, &Slight of Mind
October 17, 2007 01:27 PM PDT
Great show this week. New tunes from some old favorites AND some Underworld newbies. Sick freaks
October 14, 2007 06:52 PM PDT
We started the show with last week's newbies: tunnlvision, and played a LOT of music that you probably haven't heard. Check it out, bro (sis). This music kicks ass. Here's the link to download the show:
New music from Tunnlvision. And we beg for change!
October 04, 2007 02:59 PM PDT
Yup, we're begging for spare change at WSCA 106.1 FM. We're a community radio station, so we run a pledge drive every six months or so. Throw us a couple of bucks if you're so inclined. New music on the show from Tunnlvision Check them out, they've got a groovy style and a lot of talent. You can download the podcast in mp3 format here: Swashbuckle, Prospect Hill, and A Simple Complex
September 27, 2007 04:25 PM PDT
Wow. It's been a couple of weeks since we've posted a podcast. That's because I screwed up the file on Sept. 11, and Kaley didn't record the show on Sept. 18.
Check out the podcast: New music that rocks
September 05, 2007 08:21 AM PDT
We had some fun on the show and played some new tunes while we were at it. W played a song by one band that's new to the show - A Simple Complex. Their vocal harmonies are awesome, and the music is tremendous. I love when local bands open for national acts, so I'm happy to mention that A Simple Complex will be opening for Prong on October 27 in Bedford, NH. We also played some never-before-heard songs from some bands that are familiar to our listeners. Check out the podcast! One final note: On this podcast, I mention a way to get very cheap tickets to see Queensryche, Alice Cooper, and Heaven & Hell this weekend. Sadly, the tickets are all gone. =( Here's a link to download the podcast. Just right click it and select, "Save Target As..." Juice!
August 30, 2007 05:16 AM PDT
Juice is a master musician. He was kind enough to play three songs live on the air - just Juice and his acoustic guitar. His lyrics, music, and voice are simply amazing. Juice came to the underwhelming WSCA studio to talk to us about a song pull that he is hosting. Interested musicians can get all the info by listening to the show, checking the banner on his webpage or shooting Juice an email. Here's a link to the podcast in mp3 format.
